A Visit to Betsey's

Yesterday I had the pleasure of a quick visit to Betsey Borden's home and studio. Her distinct style and use of color bounces throughout her home. Like something from the pages of a magazine, it's beautiful. Not pretentious in the slightest – it exudes a warmth and welcoming feeling. Memories and treasured items with sentimental value are paired with handsome furniture pieces - the most spectacular painted by Betsey herself. The studio, lit with a wall of windows, is abuzz with works in progress and tools and materials. I would expect nothing less though - Betsey's artwork is as dazzling. She's very successful at combining her technical skills with her illustrative talents to complete the most amazing artwork. Not only a talented illustrator/painter, Betsey has completely restored many fine pieces that might have been considered unsalvageable to the less than optimistic. What a nice way to start off the gorgeous spring day that found itself in the middle of the month of January.

To the right - Betsey uses reclaimed wood from a vintage cabinet as the canvas for this stately heron. A large impressive piece - we're proud to carry this and many of Betsey's original art and prints at HomeGrown.
