A Show Worth Visting

There's still time to catch the incredible artwork of Sally Dean, one of the featured artists here at HomeGrown Arts and Crafts currently on display at the Dolphin Gallery at the Hingham Library. The show will hang until September 29th. This impressive body of large work is a pleasure to view and one can see why this award winning artist's work is often snapped up before her shows are dismantled.

In Sally's words:

The paintings in this show are all  acrylics on canvas from this past year. My imagery stems from life and memory- often making it up as I go along. I would like the viewer to be able to think of their own stories for my work, as some of the images are so subconscious even I don’t know where they come from! I love painting and I hope you enjoy my show.

Now through September 29th
Dolphin Gallery, Hingham Library, 66 Leavitt Street,

Commissions

We have eleven incredible artists here at HomeGrown at the moment. Many of our artists are interested and eager to take on commission work. Laurie Tonelli can take a drab hand me down piece of furniture and turn it into a treasured heirloom. Sally Dean has completed murals that are gracing the walls of many an establishment here on the South Shore and takes on commissions of all sorts regularly – and that's only two of the artists available.

This house portrait was just completed for a local realtor as a gift for her clients. Don't be shy - if you have a project you'd like one of our artists to help you with drop in and let's chat about it. With the wealth of talent at HomeGrown we can pair you with the perfect artist for what you hope to achieve.

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Introducing...

Sally Dean!

A few years ago I worked at the Duxbury Art Association. I was exposed to a lot of great art and met some really amazing folks while I was there. Sally Dean is one of those people. Her art work is totally representative of her fun-loving personality. Whimsical, bright, vibrant – are all words I would use to describe both her work and herself. Currently she's got a one-gal show at the Hingham Library that is definitely worth making a special trip to see.

Her large canvases are truly a pleasure to look at. Sounds like an odd way to describe paintings but it's true - instant good mood. My favorite in the show is this one with the teapot. In person it appears as if the lamp is actually glowing. It's 30" x 30"  –  pretty impressive.

Equally as impressive is that this adorable little cat is only 4"x4". This tiny painting is a huge favorite of mine and is now for sale at HomeGrown. Sally's got a great sampling of her panels that she did for her 365 Flower Challenge - painting a flower a day for an entire year. An accomplished mixed media artist as well, her quirky little statuettes are so much fun.

Sally's planning on teaching several classes this fall - for children as well as adults. She has an uncanny knack of fostering the creativity in just about anyone. Welcome Sally!
